Life

Sucess through failure

I was directed to this video by Dave Kellett who is the creator of Sheldon (great strip!). The video lists many great individuals who either faced adversity and/or were told that they would never amount to anything, often specifically in the fields in which they ultimately became great.

Today is our medal ceremony, the day before graduation when we present medals to our honors scholars who are graduating. This week I have had to deal with many students who will not be graduating with honors for various reasons. All were upset, understandably, and many insisted that I didn’t know what they are truly capable of. I hope so, I hope they, like those in the video, go on to do tremendous things in their fields. What the video does not go into is the fact that each of the individuals, like Michael Jordan who, the video reminds us, when cut from the high school basketball team went into his room and cried, eventually came out of that room and worked harder than anyone else to succeed. Failure is not the end and rejection is not the final verdict. It may indicate that you are in the wrong field but it can also spur one on to work harder than they have before and so to reach their full potential.

Photos: Lazy, rainy Sunday

It has been a very long week and Friday and yesterday was spent all day with alumni and students for the annual Spring scrimmage known as “Blue White Weekend.” Today I am trying to take it easy. We had a lot of rain which left the flowers soaked in beauty.

Back and forth, to and fro

DSC09876.JPGThat’s my life right now. In South Carolina Sunday and Monday and tomorrow I head to Philly for two days (and then two days in NYC and NJ next week). As you can tell, my posting is erratic but I am enjoying keeping up with Twitter. However…

The same cannot be said for my readers. So I will keep the widget at the right, please stop by the blog if you would like to see what I am up to or, better yet, follow me on Twitter! But I will turn off the daily summary since the poll, limited as it is, has revealed no real interest in such posts. The poll will keep running so feel free to vote if you have a different opinion!

The picture is from a quick stop to Parris Island. My colleague with whom I travel is a former Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine) and went through boot camp there. He graduated top in his group, with honors!

So, I hope you won’t miss me too badly and I will try to post as I can.

Living will

A “living will” is an oxymoron.

On the road again…

Today was a great Easter! A beautiful day and a wonderful luncheon with friends. Tomorrow I hit the road for the week. I should have time available during the days, but meetings interspersed and receptions every night so my posting may be erratic.
