Beautiful national monument (not park!): Muir Woods. The coastal redwoods are not as big as the sequoia but they are impressive nonetheless.

Pacific Rocks, a set on Flickr. It is going to take me a while to make it through all my pictures from last week. (And it will likely be even longer before I have another substantial post on things Aramaic, Targumic, or biblical.)

Alcatraz, a set on Flickr. It was a gorgeous day yesterday and these are just a few of the hundreds of pictures I took.

Red Rock Canyon, NV, a set on Flickr. This week I am traveling on university business. We were able to carve out two hours yesterday morning to go to Red Rock Canyon, just west of Las Vegas. I learned a lot about photographing landscape yesterday. Not sure what, but a […]

Today I posted two articles on Sacred Techs about Apple’s update to their Mac operating system. In the first post I review the new features coming this summer with the release of Mountain Lion. In the second I consider whether this signals a significant shift in Apple’s approach to desktop […]

Apple announces OS X Mountain Lion. So what?

BAR has just published a nice little piece by my former grad assistant Jonathan Greer. Do go and give it a read! (Jim will appreciate the presence of the word “deviant” in the title.) Archaeologically speaking, very little is known of the ancient Israelite cult as it was practiced by […]

Mardi Gras 06, a set on Flickr. We lived in New Orleans for 9 years, from 1997-2006. Our last Mardi Gras was the one following Katrina. The whole event of Mardi Gras leaves me with mixed feelings. The debauchery in the French Quarter is so extreme it is ridiculous, but […]

I am in late in posting the news, but my paper has been accepted for the International SBL conference this summer in Amsterdam. No one will be surprised to know that my paper is on Targum Ruth. The title character of the book of Ruth has been viewed historically as […]

There is a very interesting article in the Chronicle Review today about the fact that Wikipedia explicitly is not designed to provide correct information about a subject, but rather only present the majority “weight” of viewpoints. His field and subject of this wikisode was the Haymarket riot and trial of 1886. Timothy […]
