Friday night was it. PSU Men’s Soccer v. Cal, ranked #3 in one poll and #5 in another. Some have called Cal the best and strongest team out there. Our men were ready to play and the did! The best game I have ever seen them play in 4 years of attending matches. While Cal got a goal on a skilled header from the far post off a Cal corner. But late in the second half PSU struck back with a goal by sophomore (and Schreyer Scholar!) Kyle McDonald off a tidy cross from Owen Griffith. It was Kyle’s first collegiate goal. We went into double overtime with several great chances for Penn State (and one that I would have sworn was over the line before the defender cleared it, I am eager to hear Coach Warming’s review of the film) ending with a 1-1 draw. A very good result indeed. Andrew Wovlerton played with confidence and had 4 strong saves.
And we can never thank you all enough. Over 3,000 people came out to #MackTheJeff! We were so humbled to see so many there in white, many sporting the new PSU Soccer – Mack Brady shirts, and are so grateful for the support you have so generously offered. It is wonderful Mack’s memory continue in such a positive and fun way.
In the opening ceremony I remarked that, as Elizabeth often says, none of us choose tragedy, but we can choose how we respond to it. You all have made it possible for us to choose to live forward in joy, celebrating Mack’s life and legacy. Thank you.
