The 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Address 1

Today marks that anniversary. There are events going on around the nation and I offer these photographs taken at the Soldier’s National Cemetery. More can be found on my flickr. President Lincoln was a remarkable man in so many ways, but, as he points out in the quote below, he was like all of us in that he experienced deep grief. His words, I find, are comfortable.

“In this sad world of ours sorrow comes to all and it often comes with bitter agony. Perfect relief is not possible except with time. You cannot now believe that you will ever feel better. But this is not true. You are sure to be happy again. Knowing this, truly believing it will make you less miserable now. I have had enough experience to make this statement.”
