A Musical Meme – Ungodly Rant

The misanthropic Ranter has invited me to a meme.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 6 other people to see what they’re listening to.

Hmmmm. Let’s see I am going to modify this a bit. You see not only do I tend to set iTunes and my iPod to “shuffle” and therefore get a whole range of songs, but I have been particularly enjoying podcasts on my commute. So, with that I am going to add podcasts to my list.

  • Chris Evans – Chris is a BBC DJ whom I listened to while we lived in England. He had a morning show then but recently took over the BBC2 evening drive time. This podcast is the best 30 minutes of the previous week’s shows.
  • Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me! – Oddly enough after Katrina our NPR station finally got this show. It is great, but the time rarely works for me, so I pod’ it. “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! is NPR’s weekly hour-long quiz program. Each week on the radio you can test your knowledge against some of the best and brightest in the news and entertainment world while figuring out what’s real news and what’s made up.” What could be better than winning Carl Castle’s voice on your home answering machine?!
  • TWiT – This is great show for Geeks. “this WEEK in TECH with Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, John C. Dvorak, Robert Heron, David Prager, Roger Chang, Doug Kaye, Molly Wood, and other tech pundits.”
  • On to music:

  • “Gone in a Moment” by Seven and Seven Is, a subset of the 77s. Mike’s great, melodic and moody guitars, powerful lyrics. Great stuff.
  • “God Put a Smile on Your Face” by Coldplay. I like it.
  • “Talk About the Passion” by R.E.M. You know, I have never paid attention to this song or album until I inadvertently added it to a playlist. The lyrics aren’t much and I am still not sure what to make of it. That is why I like it.
  • I will not burden other folks with this but if you would like to carry it on, by all means do so! (I would be very interested in what Evan and Ed would come up with. 😉
