Today is the day. We are off to see the Rex parade downtown. Today, of course, is the last day of feasting before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of fasting and abstinence for Lent. Yeah, right. 🙂
Actually, there are more people than you might expect in NO who usually do observe Lent in some significant way. This year has been all about “doing without” and still is for so many. It is perhaps good to remember that Len does not have to be about giving up something for yourself, it can also be giving something to others. If you are observing Lent this year perhaps consider giving the money you are saving by not buying chocolate or alcohol to a worth charity or organization. This group was started by three of my students and is very well run. And there are of course various religious organizations who are doing good work as well.
