TV

There goes my prime time TV

The only show I watched, aside from Myth Busters, has been axed.

NBC shelves ‘Studio 60′

If you’re among the few remaining fans of “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” it’s time to say farewell.

The drama about the goings-on behind the scenes of an “SNL”-like sketch-comedy show drew its lowest ratings of the season Monday, prompting NBC to place the series on hiatus, which is network-speak for “kiss it goodbye.”

The mob drama “The Black Donnellys” will debut next week; no word on what will become of the six unaired episodes of “Studio 60.” Monday night’s episode was watched by fewer than a third of those who tuned in to CBS’s “CSI: Miami” in the 10 p.m. slot.

Wittenburg Door at Studio 60

You know about my love for the show, John Bloom got to interview the minds behind the mastery. This is a great article. Looking for the Best Christian on TV – STUDIO 60

What I’ve come here to ask these guys is: What’s the deal with the believable three-dimensional Christian character in this new series? Have they lost their minds? I mean, really, the character of Harriet Hayes, a conflicted, unlucky-in-love, tough-but-vulnerable cast member of the show-within-the-show, may be the single most appealing Christian character in a Hollywood production since … well, I think you’d probably have to go back to Audrey Hepburn in The Nun’s Story (1959), although come to think of it, Audrey doesn’t turn out to be such a good nun after all, does she? Maybe Bing Crosby as Father Chuck O’Malley in Going My Way (1944), although, if we’re gonna have to pick a sympathetic Catholic priest, let’s go with Max Von Sydow in The Exorcist (1973), at least he had some cojones.

Third Annual Ralphies (2): Film

This category is tough for me. I enjoy films and TV but I never feel qualified to offer a “best/worst” that will apply to others. (And at this point I am not sure I can even remember which movies we saw!)

BEST MOVIE: Cars has to top my list. I have already blogged on my initial impressions and they remain firm after seeing it at a drive-in and multiple times on our own TV. Just today (New Year’s Eve) we put together our son’s new “big boy bed” complete with “To-Mater” sheets. (We also just finished watching Monsters Inc. Pixar is the best.)

WORST MOVIE: I don’t feel I can really comment here. I will say that I was disappointed with The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. As a family we enjoyed the first two and I love Martin Short, but this film was too, well, short. It felt like a made for TV movie that was direct release to theaters.

BEST TV SHOW: No question here, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Tight script writing, intelligent, funny… it is worth missing part of Monday Nigh Football (which has been horrible this year, the games, not the guys; I love Tony K!) in order to see it.

Being a Christian in Studio 60

If you have not been watching Studio 60 on Sunset Strip I strongly encourage you to do so. Particularly if you are interested in how the media portrays Christians in their industry. Their treatment in this show is too complex for me to summarize here, but I will say that Sorkin is doing a much better job in this show than he did in West Wing. They put the past week’s episode up for one week, so be sure to check it out. (Sorry, seems to be Windows only, so get an Intel Mac with Parallels!)
