May, 2009:

Twitter Jesus

Interestingly enough Jesus does not twitter, at least not under his own name (the LORD does, however).

Too much work…

…and so little time. Which is why even this comic is 2 days old.

Proof of your sins

Not my favorite comic although I read it a lot as a kid. Heathcliff paved the way for Garfield and is still a far more cat-like cat. This one made me think about how much more interesting confession would be if the priest did required evidence of your sins.

Heathcliff - May 12, 2009

Heathcliff by George Gately

Because there are so many native Latin and Aramaic speakers in London.

The Independent is reporting on this ridicularity. Personally, I would worry more about cleaning up after the horses and camels.

On-stage chariot races, herds of horses, camels, vultures, eagles, 400 performers and a supporting cast which includes Jesus Christ, Tiberius Julius Caesar and Pontius Pilate … What else to do but set Ben-Hur the stage show in Latin and Aramaic? The £5m production will show at the 20,000-seat O2 arena in London from 15-19 September.

Only one song in the score – written by Stewart Copeland, formerly a rock drummer for the Police – will be composed in English.

Actors will learn their lines in the ancient language of the Romans and the Jews. A narrator will explain the action in the native language of whichever of the seven countries the play is touring, among them France and Germany, as well as England.

…Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London and a long-time supporter of the continuation of Latin studies, gave his approval to the show.

“Ave! This is a fantastic idea. Cives londinii spectabunt et mirabuntur,” he said. “We have much to learn from the Romans, not least since the horse is the ultimate low-carbon vehicle.”

Choosing the next President of Wheaton College (IL)

http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/44/116644-004-0EF6D787.jpgWhat an honor.1 Today I received a letter from Wheaton College (the one in IL) from which I received an MA in Biblical and Theological Studies. Dr. Duane Litfin, who became president of the College while I was still a student there, is stepping down as president. The letter asks for my help in identifying someone to replace him.

In your own role as Dean of the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University, you understand well the complexities involved in serving as a leader, and you know first-hand the qualifications and character necessary to excel in that job.

So I am open to nominations. Who do you all think I should recommend and why? I am open to any and all suggestions (I prefer actual living persons, but we depending upon the individual we might be able to make an exception).

I will begin with the obvious choices (to make you work a little harder) of Drs. Jim West and Chris Tilling. Now, who else?

  1. To clarify, I do consider it an honor. Seriously. No sarcasm at all. It is a great school and they need a great leader. Perhaps later I will do another post on what kind of leader I think they should seek out. []
