This op-ed piece surprised me. The authors Nathan Thrall and Jesse James Wilkins (great name that is) do a nice job of bringing out the complexities of negotiating with foreign powers with whom one is in conflict using JFK as the example. The conclusion:
If Barack Obama wants to follow in Kennedy’s footsteps, he should heed the lesson that Kennedy learned in his first year in office: sometimes there is good reason to fear to negotiate.
It is a quick read and well worth the time.
